The wave of Latin American children seeking entry into the United States that started a couple of years ago sparked a strong anti-immigrant reaction among conservative politicians and amplified the calls by the leading 2016 presidential candidates to fortify the U.S.-Mexico border. Left little discussed were the reasons why these children were seeking entry into the U.S. to begin with.
