Geoff Thale of the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) discusses President Obama's recent opening of diplomatic relations with Cuba and the reactions of the presidential candidates in this Burning Issues video.

"It is an illusion to think that engaging in Cuba somehow suggests that we drop concerns about human rights," Thale says, making the case that the engagement that Obama has started holds the promise of accelerating human rights progress, and puts our relationship with Cuba more on par with those of other countries with troubling human rights practices.

Thale assesses the extent to which Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton would move the Obama initiative forward, and explains the Republican candidate positions.
