Health Vote Delayed

Senate GOP leaders push off health care vote until after July 4th. NPR: "With their health care bill facing a perilous path, Senate Republican leaders have decided to push off a vote until after Congress returns from next week's July Fourth recess... "We're still working toward getting at least 50 people in a comfortable place,' Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday at a press conference on Capitol Hill."

GOP senators come out in furious force against healthcare bill after vote delayed. Business Insider: "Several Republican senators voiced their opposition to the Senate healthcare bill just hours after the GOP leadership said they would delay a vote on the legislation until after the July 4 recess... After the delay, Republican senators went on record opposing the current iteration of the bill, the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA). Combined with those that defected before the delay, at least nine GOP senators have said they opposed the first iteration of the bill."

Republicans May Have a Plan B If Their Health-Care Bill Fails. New York Magazine: "The close proximity of this fiscal year 2017 budget-reconciliation bill (which is technically what Senate health-care bill actually is) and its 2018 successor (which is what the tax-and-budget bill will be) raises a tantalizing fallback possibility for Republicans if McConnell can’t find a way to secure 50 votes for Trumpcare next month: A lot of what the first bill would accomplish could easily be rolled into the second."

Warren's Alternative

Urging Democrats To Go Bold, Warren Says 'The Next Step Is Single Payer'. Common Dreams: "Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts is calling on Democrats to embrace a single-payer healthcare system in order to win back Congress and the White House in upcoming elections. Warren argued that simply blocking the Republican rollback of the Affordable Care Act, also called Obamacare, is not enough to distinguish Democrats from their GOP counterparts in the minds of voters."

Dirty Water

Trump rolls back Obama's Clean Water Rule. ThinkProgress: "The Clean Water Rule, which was first proposed in 2014, sought to clarify the legal jurisdiction of the federal government under the Clean Water Act. In doing so, it expanded protection for two million miles of streams and 20 million acres of wetlands. Also known as the Waters of the United States Rule, the rule was widely criticized by industry — including fossil fuel producers, manufacturers, and agribusiness — as well as by Republican lawmakers, who called the rule an example of overreach by a federal agency."

All of Donald Trump’s Lies. Bill Moyers: "This weekend, the New York Times printed every lie Donald Trump has told since taking office. The effort deserves the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. We also hope that once they finished the task, they rushed right home to a long and cleansing shower."
