Are you tired of all the nasty, hit-piece, smear ads and mailings against candidates for pubic office that we have to put up with? The way things are set up, we don't even get to know who paid for them.
In January President Obama said in the State of the Union address, "I believe we’ve got to reduce the influence of money in our politics, so that a handful of families or hidden interests can’t bankroll our elections."
Right now, President Obama could do something about a lot of this problem with the stroke of a pen. The president could issue an executive order that requires companies doing business with the federal government to disclose their political spending. If he did that, 70 percent of Fortune 100 companies would then have to let the public know if they are funding these nasty, secret political smear jobs.
National Call-In Day
Concerned progressive groups have gathered more than a million signatures asking the president to do this, and so far he has not. So Wednesday is a national call-in day to help get the executive order across the finish line.
The Communications Workers of America (CWA) have set up a toll-free line – 888-894-6720 – to tell President Obama to take action on getting big money out of politics.
American Family Voices has also set up their own phone number at 888-848-4824. Call and tell President Obama to quit standing on the sidelines as corporations and the donor class capture control of our elections.
Public Citizen wants you to: Add your name to demand President Obama stop stalling and sign an executive order illuminating the “dark money” corroding our democracy.
