GOP Braces For Trump
Republican senators worry about Trump nomination. The Hill: "Sen. John Cornyn ... told CNN on Monday, 'We can’t have a nominee be an albatross around the down-ballot races. That’s a concern of mine.' ... Sen. Pat Toomey (Pa.), another Republican facing a tough reelection, condemned Trump’s remarks. 'Trump comments on KKK/Mussolini appalling,' he tweeted..."
"Dems torn" on whether Trump helps or hurts. The Hill: "...most leading Democrats seem to view the real estate mogul as an election-year gift ... But there’s another group of Democrats ... concerned that Democratic leaders and strategists may be misreading the currents propelling Trump’s rise..."
Trump attracts white supremacist leaders. NYT: "'God bless this man,' exulted the Daily Stormer, a white supremacist website ... [Said David Duke,] 'Donald Trump: Do whatever you need to get elected.'"
Buzzfeed reports that Trump made different immigration comments in an off-the-record NYT interview: "The New York Times is sitting on an audio recording that some of its staff believes could deal a serious blow to Donald Trump, who, in an off-the-record meeting with the newspaper, called into question whether he would stand by his own immigration views."
Trump responds to Sean Hannity. W. Post quotes: "Things are negotiable. I'll be honest with you -- I'll make the wall two feet shorter, or something. I mean, everything's negotiable."
Clinton Looks Ahead To Trump
Clinton campaign prepares for Trump: "The plan has three major thrusts: Portray Mr. Trump as a heartless businessman who has worked against the interests of the working-class voters he now appeals to; broadcast the degrading comments he has made against women in order to sway suburban women, who have been reluctant to support Mrs. Clinton; and highlight his brash, explosive temper to show he is unsuited to be commander in chief."
Both Clinton and Sanders beat Trump in CNN poll: "... Clinton tops Trump 52% to 44% among registered voters ... Sanders -- who enjoys the most positive favorable rating of any presidential candidate in the field, according to the poll -- tops all three Republicans by wide margins: 57% to 40% against Cruz, 55% to 43% against Trump, and 53% to 45% against Rubio."
Sanders Rakes In Small Donor Support
Sanders on fundraising tear. NYT: "Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont raised more than $42 million during February ... More than $6 million of that money was raised on Monday ... The funds raised in February came from 1.4 million individual contributors who donated an average of $30 each..."
Jane Sanders sets Super Tuesday expectations. W. Post quotes: "...it’s a rough map for us ... We think that we’re going to split the votes tomorrow, split the states, so we’re feeling good about that ... time is on our side now ... the more they know him, they more support him."
Sanders campaign signals convention plan in Politico: "They’re already prepping the fallback plan: 10 areas, including killing Obama’s trade deals and changing the super-delegate process that they’re going to organize around and try forcing into the Democratic platform."
