You know the situation: Social Security faces an immediate threat from the politicians trying to cut a deal to raise the debt ceiling.
On the table is cutting Social Security’s cost-of-living adjustment, so seniors will lose purchasing power over time. It's being done in the name of helping to reduce the federal deficit, but in fact Social Security doesn’t contribute a penny to the deficit.
Then there is the payroll tax cut being contemplated for employers, which is essentially a raid on Social Security to give corporations a tax break. Starving the trust fund of contributions from employers jeopardizes the Social Security benefits you and 54 million other Americans rely on. Corporations shouldn’t get another handout.
