With one in seven Americans experiencing "food insecurity," Republicans yesterday passed a terrible and cruel cut in Food Stamps. This shows us just who they are.

New America Foundation: More Than One in Seven U.S. Households Experienced Food Insecurity Last Year,
Approximately 33.1 million adults and 15.9 million children lived in food insecure households in 2012. According to the USDA definition of food insecurity, this means a full 49 million Americans lived in households that struggled to access enough food due to a lack of resources last year.
Note that "the data likely understate food insecurity because they don’t include homeless individuals or families."
New America Foundation pointed out that hunger was "mitigated by the responsiveness of our social safety net – most notably the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/food stamps)."
Mitigated, but maybe not for long.
$40 Billion And 3.8 Million People Cut From Food Stamps
Republicans in the House of Representatives yesterday voted to cut $40 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) commonly known as "Food Stamps." They also voted to make recipients get drug tests.
Republican propaganda claims that we are in a terrible "Obama Economy." They rail about how terrible it is out there for people. And then after chortling that the economy is terrible they cut $40 billion from food stamps. This is who they are.
From the Huffington Post news report, "The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that the House legislation would deny benefits to 3.8 million Americans next year."
