Eric's Bio
Pope Paul VI
Eric Lotke is Research Director at the Campaign for America's Future. Previously he served as the Policy Director at the Justice Policy Institute, and he was a Soros Foundation Senior Justice Fellow. He has authored path breaking research on the criminal justice system, including patterns of juvenile homicide, the demographics of incarceration, and the political and financial consequences of the U.S. Census Bureau counting people in prison where they are confined rather than their original homes. Mr. Lotke, an attorney, has also been involved in the direct delivery of justice services. As Executive Director of D.C. Prisoners’ Legal Services Project, he represented inmates in a groundbreaking class action lawsuit against the private Corrections Corporation of America, and he pioneered litigation over excessive, non-competitive price of collect phone calls from people in prison. He acted as Chief Operating Officer of the Alliance of Concerned Men, an organization that runs programs for troubled youths and returning prisoners, and that intervenes at moments of intense conflict among rival gangs. Mr. Lotke has been an adjunct professor at the Georgetown Law Center, the George Washington Law School, and the University of the District of Columbia School of Law. He has a Masters in Philosophy and he was formerly a judicial clerk on the Supreme Court of Connecticut.
