Russian Intrusion

Russians breached 39 state election systems. Bloomberg: "Russia’s cyberattack on the U.S. electoral system before Donald Trump’s election was far more widespread than has been publicly revealed, including incursions into voter databases and software systems in almost twice as many states as previously reported. In Illinois, investigators found evidence that cyber intruders tried to delete or alter voter data."

AG Sessions to testify to Senate Intelligence Committee. USA Today: "Attorney General Jeff Sessions, under fire over contacts with Russians and his actions prior to President Trump's firing of FBI director James Comey, will testify in public Tuesday before the Senate Intelligence Committee. His testimony has been highly anticipated following last week's appearance by former FBI director James Comey, who told the committee that Sessions had a third undisclosed meeting with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. The hearing will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET."

Trump considers firing special counsel Mueller. PBS Newshour: "President Donald Trump could be weighing the termination of special counsel Robert Mueller from his oversight of the federal Russia investigation, Christopher Ruddy, CEO of the conservative Newsmax Media and a friend of President Trump, told PBS NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff... 'I think he’s considering perhaps terminating the special counsel. I think he’s weighing that option,' Ruddy said."

Trumpcare

Senate GOP plans to hide Trumpcare from public view. Axios: "Senate Republicans are working to finish their draft health care bill, but have no plans to publicly release it, according to two senior Senate GOP aides. 'We aren't stupid,' said one of the aides... When the bill is finished, it'll be sent to the Congressional Budget Office. It'll take CBO about two weeks to evaluate and score a draft bill. Senate Republicans then want to vote on the bill before the July 4th recess."

Houston Hoax

Armed right-wingers rally to defend Houston statue that no one is attacking. Salon:"Things took a strange turn over the weekend in the battle over the future of various monuments to the treacherous, slave-owning Confederacy. Hundreds of people, many of them carrying Confederate flags, turned out to Hermann Park in Houston on Saturday to protest efforts to tear down the park’s monument to Sam Houston... The problem? There were no efforts to tear down the statue of Houston. This was a hoax."

The Rule of Law

CA court upholds block of Trump travel ban. The Hill: "The California-based court on Monday affirmed in large part the Hawaii District Court ruling blocking parts of the order, which temporarily banned nationals from six Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S., suspended the entry of all refugees and reduced the cap on the admission of refugees from 110,000 to 50,000 for the 2017 fiscal year. In a unanimous ruling Monday, a three-judge panel on the court said Trump's revised order does not offer a sufficient justification to suspend the entry of more than 180 million people on the basis of nationality."

Virginia from Purple to Blue?

VA governor's primary shows progressive Democrats gaining ground. WaPo: "With polls showing Northam and Perriello running neck-and-neck, what’s been most striking in the homestretch is how far left both have come. While some of the posturing is certainly about trying to ride the wave of resistance to Donald Trump and appeal to base voters in a low-turnout primary, the journeys both have taken over the past decade tell a larger story about how much the state of Virginia has transformed, from red to purple to maybe even slightly blue."

More from OurFuture.org:

The Koch Brothers & Trump: The Men Who Sold the World. Richard Eskow: "Trump and his party have been marching in lockstep with the fossil-fuel industry for some time now. Even before Trump took office, the Washington Post reported that 'the fossil fuel industry is enjoying a remarkable resurgence as its executives and lobbyists shape President-elect Donald Trump’s policy agenda and staff his administration.' That influence can be seen in Trump’s appointments, in his deeds and now in his budget."
