Washington Lawyers Rally Around Embattled Leader

WASHINGTON - Majority Leader Tom DeLay raised more money from corporate interests in the last quarter than any other reporting period in his career, according to a new analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics. In late July we targeted Rep. John Tanner, D-Tenn., for voting against an amendment that would have strengthened federal oversight of Wal-Mart stores. Rep. Tanner is a top recipient of Wal-Mart's campaign contributions. Our full-page newspaper ad (below) ran in The Jackson Sun, the largest newspaper in Rep. Tanner's Tennessee district.

WASHINGTON – The Campaign for America's Future began airing a new radio ad today that urges Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, to address the needs of everyday Ohioans instead of spending his time on gambling deals for Washington lobbyists. The ads heighten the controversy surrounding Rep. Ney, who was accused by Republican radio hosts in his district last week of attempting to intimidate them after they read news reports of him on the air.

In early July, we followed up by airing a radio adthat urged Ney to address the needs of everyday Ohioans instead of spending his time on gambling deals for Washington lobbyists. Without the donations of our online supporters, we could not have exposed Ney's corruption.

WASHINGTON – The Campaign for America’s Future today challenged House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, to explain his relationship to corporate lobbyist Brian H. Darling. Darling is the author of the Republican strategy memo that said the personal tragedy of Terri Schiavo presents a “great political issue” for Republicans.

Rep. DeLay last month told the conservative Family Research Council that "God brought to us" the Terri Schiavo tragedy and linked it to a strategy to defend the conservative movement.
