American Students to Pay for Tax Breaks for Millionaires

On February 1, the House of Representatives will vote on a massive bill detailing cuts to the 2006 budget. Hidden in it is a $12.7 billion cut to student loan programs, the largest cut to student loan programs ever. The Republican majority’s bill, inappropriately named the Deficit Reduction Act, will lock in increases to the average student loan burden for America’s 7.7 million student borrowers by as much as $2,000.
