A government agency wants to make it easier for parents to report defective children's products, as well as speed up recall notifications to parents from manufacturers. Under the proposed rule issued Tuesday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, any "durable" products for children up to age 5 — including play yards, bath seats, bed rails, infant slings, toddler beds and strollers — would have to have full contact information of the manufacturer and the model name, date and numbers of the product permanently printed on them. Manufacturers would also have to provide postage-paid registration forms and keep records of all consumers who register their products.
