Fundraising and Events Intern
The Campaign for America’s Future (CAF) and the Institute for America’s Future’s (IAF) internship program is an integral component to the organization. Interns are actively involved in all areas of the organization, and play a vital role in the day-to-day operations. The Fundraising and Events Intern will have an opportunity to assist with CAF/IAF's Development/Events efforts. This position offers an enriching and rewarding opportunity to work closely with CAF/IAF’s staff to help us push for shared prosperity and equal opportunity for all. He or she will gain hands-on experience covering various aspects of development and events in a rapidly growing nonprofit organization, including grant writing and reporting, event planning (through our annual meeting and other events), fundraising through new media (i.e. social networks) and e-mail campaigns, foundation & corporation research, and fundraising with individuals.
CAF/IAF seeks interns who are well-organized team players with a commitment to and interest in progressive politics and/or nonprofits. The intern must be able to quickly learn and understand CAF/IAF’s mission, programs, and capacities. Interning with CAF/IAF is a great way to gain real world experience that could lead to a career in development research, marketing, issue advocacy, public policy, public relations or many other avenues. In this economic climate, fundraising is more important than ever, and development skills are in high demand on the job market.
• Support development staff
• Conduct research on potential donors and grant opportunities
• Assist with managing data and input into Donor Perfect database
• Maintenance and upkeep of individual donor database
• Update, research and maintain outreach lists
• Provide and update website and social networking (Facebook, Twitter, etc) content as needed
• Conceptualize and design new and enhanced features for the CAF/IAF’s e-marketing campaign
• Assist in writing and design of marketing collateral
• Assist with our annual conference and other events
• Participate in special projects and perform other related duties
• Maturity to take initiative and work independently and creatively with minimal supervision
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
• Strict attention to detail and ability to follow oral and written instructions
•Knowledge of data gathering techniques (library and Internet research)
• Flexibility to adapt to changing goals and objectives
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
• Creativity and openness in expressing new ideas and capacity to produce questions that will further CAF/IAF’s missions
