This is an introduction to a series of 16 posts I wrote in reply to a number of posts by John Carney at the CNBC blog and Cullen Roche at Pragmatic Capitalism, and comments replying to them. The posts by Carney and Roche criticized the MMT Job Guarantee (JG) proposal. more »

Bernie: YOU Stop Caving to Peterson/Obama/#supercommittee

Dear Bernie,

Today, you told the “Democrats stop caving in . . . ” to the interests of corporations, the tea party, wealthy individuals, and the Republicans in Congress. The only problem with your fiery statement is that you began it by “caving in” to them yourself. more »

Still Superman?

There have been many reactions to S & Ps action in downgrading the credit rating of the US, Apart from the widespread annoyance and repudiation of S & P and its procedures, there are some who are saying that it won't have much effect on interest rates. Others even saying that it more »

Standard & Poor's Tugs on Superman's Cape

Last December, my friend, beowulf, had this to say at the time Moody's began to make noises about downgrading US debt. He said:

What If a Debt Limit Extension is Voted Down?

(Thanks to DailyKos commenter 2laneIA for suggesting this post and the title)

The President's Address on the Debt Ceiling: An Exercise in Fantasy

Many people have been, deservedly, very quick to jump on John Boehner for the lies he told in answering the President's Address; but they have been a lot less anxious to lay out the lies or at least falsehoods told or implied by the President, himself. I don't intend to excuse the Speaker's lies or the Speaker, by showing that the President doesn't have clean hands. more »

What's Wrong With You? An Open Letter to Congressional Dems & the President

Dear Dems and Mr. President,

I've been a lifelong Democrat. But now, I don't know anymore. I'm still registered alright; but when I look at your behavior, I think I'm a freely floating voter resource now, and I'd probably respond to a poll as one in that amorphous blob of independents that stands for “the two parties suck; but we don't agree on much else.” I'm sorry about that. more »
