Think Progress brought to our attention the latest from the Fox spin machine:
<!--StartFragment -->This weekend on Fox News, host David Asman asked his guests to discuss the following question: “If people buy into [Al Gore’s] global warming hysteria, will it put him in the White House and our economy on the skids?” Steve Forbes answered yes, and called Gore’s new movie “a real recipe for more socialist regulation.”
Invoking the age old "jobs versus the environment" debate obscures the obvious fact that creating alternatives to fossil fuels will create a new industry and with it new jobs.
Our dependence on oil is draining hundreds of billions of dollars from our economy each year, so not addressing the problem is what is putting our economy on the skids. This is precisely the time for the government to make the public investments to create a new energy industry, like they did when they invested in the internet and the highway systems which bolstered our economy.
Editor's Note: Jeff Rickert is vice president of the Apollo Alliance, a broad coalition of labor unions, major national environmental organizations, businesses and community organizations that is pursuing a crash program for clean energy.
