Super Committee Appointments Loom Time Running Out To Make Your Voice Heard

Bill Scher

The Huffington Post reported that Democratic leaders are “narrowing down the list” of who will be appointed to the so-called “Super Committee” designed to fast-track proposals to cut the deficit, including possible cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

So time is running out if you want to make your voice heard, and tell Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to appoint leaders like Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Keith Ellison and Rep. Raul Grijalva who represent views supported by the vast majority of Americans.

It could only take one Democrat siding with a united bloc of Republicans to bring a devastating austerity package to the floor of both houses of Congress, without any chance of amendments. With Republican leaders pledging to appoint only those who reject all tax increases on the wealthy, a Democratic counterweight is crucial.

If you want appointees to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and fight for fair taxes on the wealthy and corporations, this is the time to speak up.
