Your Turn To Ask The Speaker

Bill Scher

Speaker John Boehner is presently soliciting questions on YouTube and Twitter (using the hashtag #askthespeaker), and he will answer the ones which get the most votes from his YouTube page on Tuesday.

I have a few. I bet you do too.

* If you really believe that “we’re broke,” why won’t you ask the wealthiest individuals and corporations to contribute more in taxes as part of a plan so we will not be broke? AskBoehnerButton.jpg

* If you really believe that “we’re broke,” why do you want to repeal health care reform that is projected to cut the deficit? AskBoehnerButton.jpg

* If you really believe that “we’re broke,” shouldn’t you make amends for your own votes to expand the deficit by cutting taxes for the wealthy, spending on wars without revenue efforts and subsidizing drug companies to provide the Medicare drug benefit? AskBoehnerButton.jpg

* If you really believe that “we’re broke,” and that it’s an urgent crisis to solve, why are you prioritizing legislation to make it even harder for women to obtain a legal abortion? AskBoehnerButton.jpg

* If you really believe that government spending can’t create jobs, why did you fight for a military engine contract that Pentagon doesn’t want, by arguing it would create 1,000 jobs in your state? AskBoehnerButton.jpg

* If you really ran for Speaker on the campaign slogan, “Where Are The Jobs?” when will see a jobs plan from you, that goes beyond wasteful military spending in your state? AskBoehnerButton.jpg

* If you really ran for Speaker on the campaign slogan, “Where Are The Jobs?” do you plan to ask that question to your new governor who killed a high-speed rail project that would have created 16,000 jobs? AskBoehnerButton.jpg

* If you believe, as you recently said, that “We need to have an adult conversation on entitlements,” why did you oversee an election campaign that attacked the President’s cost-saving Medicare reforms as “$500 billion in Medicare cuts”? AskBoehnerButton.jpg

* Regarding the debt ceiling, you said last month that your fellow Republicans are “going to have to deal with it as adults.” Are they? AskBoehnerButton.jpg

* Have you held more public town halls or private lobbyist roundtables since you have been Speaker? AskBoehnerButton.jpg
